Oxfam: A Whole Systems Approach to Alleviating Poverty

September 22, 2015
Editor @17Goals

One of the world’s most effective NGOs working to reduce poverty is Oxfam. They take a whole systems approach, working on the policy and economic system end in addition to providing relief — and the means to lift oneself out of poverty — to those in need.

We use a combination of rights-based sustainable development programs, public education, campaigns, advocacy, and humanitarian assistance in disasters and conflicts. We challenge the structural causes of the injustice of poverty, and work with allies and partners locally and globally.
