The concept of “well-being” is defined differently by different cultures and countries, but has recently become recognized as one of the key goals for development. Sometimes people even refer to well-being as happiness. Some nations even measure their happiness.

To begin getting your head around how well-being, happiness, and national development all fit together, you might start by looking here: a small-but-global NGO program called the Happiness Alliance.

Our Mission is to improve the well-being of society by increasing understanding and appreciation of the factors that lead to life satisfaction, resilience and sustainability. In addition to economic status, we focus on examining sectors that span social, environmental and governance quality.

The Happiness Alliance

Visit their website to view results from the Gross National Happiness Index survey, and even take the survey yourself. They also provide happiness related resources, like a toolkit for spreading awareness, and informative SlideShare presentations about how to bring more happiness to different sectors of your life.
